Glutathione

The body's master antioxidant tripeptide — safe for supplemental use, but FDA-warned against IV skin-brightening injection.

Verdict — C · Emerging / Mixed

An endogenous molecule with strong safety credentials at oral and topical doses — but the IV injection route that most buyers in this catalog context are considering carries an FDA safety warning, infection risk, and weak evidence for skin brightening. For antioxidant supplementation, the oral route is the rational choice.

Overview

Glutathione (GSH) is the most abundant endogenous antioxidant, a tripeptide (Glu-Cys-Gly) central to redox homeostasis. Supplemental and injectable forms are widely used off-label for skin brightening, immune support, and antioxidant loading. The FDA issued a safety warning in 2020 against IV glutathione marketed specifically for skin lightening, citing potential for allergic reactions, air embolism risk, and lack of evidence for this use. As an endogenous molecule, oral and topical use has a strong safety record; the IV injection route carries a higher risk burden.
